

SD Scratch Open (No Trixx Scratch Battle) Online Rules and Plan

The No Trixx Theme for this session is: Jazz (must use jazz vinyl no DVS)ie recordbox, traktor and serato

Use of a turntable, or portable turntable (Permitted) but must show 7” or 45 (not a scratch record)

Time limit is 30 seconds or 12 Bar count measure

No Video editing of the performance (slight editing allowed to trim the clip beginning and end)
Battle Presentation: This scratch battle is different from the rest because it is themed either to specific vinyl records and or genres to challenge you.
Youtube Presentation: Round 1 Preliminary (4 will be chosen)
What to do: Video Record Yourself

Present vinyl record to be used (jacket or record)

Pick and play your sample snip from the record

Pick a beat from the SD Scratch Open Looper from Tablebeats app and proceed to scratch for 30 Seconds.

Upload to youtube and post, label your entry: SD Scratch Open Round 1-DJ Name
fyi the only change to this labeling will be the rounds. ie SD Scratch Open round 2, SD Scratch Open Round 3

The Judging Criteria of The SD Scratch Open (No Trixx Battle)
Technical- Intricate use of combinations -15 points
Musicality and flow - 10 points
Composition- Total routine, adhesiveness- 10 Points
Originality + Creativity +Extraordinary Elements 15 Points
Slight changes to the rules due to COVID 19 for the San Diego Scratch Open (No Trixx) Freestyle Global Battle.
Contestant may use a Jazz Instrument sample on dvs (serato, traktor, etc) but you must present song selection and soundbyte prior to scratching for your 30 Seconds. If you are quarantined and confined to a ship, naval vessel, home, dormitory, barracks or under martial law, in a place with no access to a record merchant or your personal record collection.
Note: Competitor must label his or her Youtube title:
SD SCRATCH OPEN, ROUND 1, DJ "your name" quarantined (ship, home, martial law)
*pls specify and please be honest.
You may use a jazz soundbyte off a 7" (sax, trumpet, guitar, bass, piano, tuba, conga, tabla)
No button pushing after you begin scratching- you will be disqualified.
For the 1st round, 4 People will advance. Consecutive rounds after Prelim will be 40 second time limits (Thats Rounds 2 and 3.).
